Our terrain is very diversified ranging in elevation from 6,000 to 9,500 ft. Elk are extremely hardy and adaptable and have established residency in just about every geographical region in S. Colorado from 4,000 to above timberline. These new generations of low country resident elk never have or will see the high country. S. Colorado‘s newly established elk herds of the last 20 years have the highest bull and cow ratios, age ratios and much less hunting pressure than the western side of the state, which means “older bulls and more of them.”
Despite a 2 year drought in Southern Colorado our 2010/2011 seasons were super elk producers with the early bugle hunts averaging 75 to 90% kill success and 100+% shooting opportunities.
